The annual CSSA Economic Outlook took place this week at The Goldsmiths’ Centre in London, bringing together leaders, experts and professionals from across the cleaning and support services sector for a morning of insight, discussion and collaboration.
The event provided a forward-looking snapshot of the economic and legislative landscape - and how it will shape the year ahead for our industry.
Setting the Scene: The Employment Rights Bill
The day began with an engaging panel discussion on the Employment Rights Bill, hosted by Paul Ashton and featuring Jane Malone, Bal Kang, Sophie Ransome and Jamie Devlin.
The conversation explored what the proposed reforms could mean for employers and employees within the cleaning and FM sectors, covering key topics such as job security, flexibility, and the operational impact of legislative change. The panel encouraged open dialogue, with attendees sharing their experiences and insights on how the Bill could reshape workforce management in the months ahead.
Alongside policy changes, the discussion also examined the growing impact of technology and AI on employment. From automation and digital scheduling tools to AI-driven compliance and reporting systems, panellists reflected on how innovation is transforming roles, improving efficiency, and creating new challenges around training and responsibility. The conversation highlighted the need to balance progress with people - ensuring technology enhances rather than replaces the human contribution at the heart of our industry.
Economic Outlook with Roger Martin-Fagg
Returning for his third consecutive year, Roger once again delivered an outstanding keynote presentation - a firm highlight of the CSSA calendar.
Roger’s session provided an in-depth analysis of the current economic climate and projections for 2026, examining trends in inflation, business confidence and labour markets. His engaging and data-led insights gave attendees practical context for strategic planning and future decision-making.
The Gen Z Perspective: Shaping the Future Workforce
The final session of the day shifted focus to the Gen Z perspective, hosted by Dan Henstock and joined by Ellie Goodchild, Max Reames, Sophie O'Shea, Niall Smith and Milly Pitt.
This lively discussion explored how the next generation views work, leadership and purpose - and what employers in the cleaning and facilities sector can do to attract, retain and inspire young talent. From flexible career development to meaningful company culture, the panel offered a forward-thinking view on engaging our multi-generational workforce.
A Community That Keeps Growing
Beyond the discussions, the CSSA Economic Outlook once again demonstrated the strength of our community - one built on shared goals, open collaboration and continuous improvement.
A huge thank you to all speakers, panellists and attendees who made this year’s event such a success. Special thanks to Roger for his continued support, and to everyone who joined us afterwards to carry on the conversations.
